おおいかぶさる【覆い被さる】

hang over…; cover.

●その巨木の枝が家に覆いかぶさっていた. The boughs of the large tree overhung [spread out over] the house.

・霧が原野一面に覆いかぶさっていた. A mist hung over [covered] the whole field. | The field was completely covered [hidden, concealed] in mist.

・落石から守ろうとして彼女は幼い息子の上に覆いかぶさった. She threw herself over her little boy (in order) to protect him from falling rocks.

・父が死んで, すべての責任が長男の上に覆いかぶさってきた. With his father's death, all responsibilities devolved on the eldest son.
